Galveston Police Arrest 4 Caught Burglarizing Cars: Police

Four people were arrested on Galveston Island Friday morning after they were caught burglarizing vehicles at a Holiday Inn, police said.

GALVESTON, TX — Four people were arrested on Galveston Island Friday morning after they were caught burglarizing vehicles at a Holiday Inn, police said. The call came in at about 3:30 a.m. that a witness saw two people breaking into a car in the parking lot at 5002 Seawall Blvd.

A Galveston police officer who was working off-duty employment nearby was the first to respond to the area. The two burglars tried to run, and got into a waiting car with two others, but they were quickly caught.

Police learned that the four had taken part in 14 car burglaries in the area, and found stolen items from the burglaries in their car, including stolen weapons and narcotics, police said.

The four suspects were identified as 19-year-old Isaiah Melendez who is from Houston, 24-year-old Porcha Sweeney, of Katy; Darrick Carriere, 18, of Houston, and Elizabeth McCook, 19, of Missouri City.

Isaiah Melendez , 19, who is from Houston; 24-year-old Porcha Sweeney, of Katy; Darrick Carriere, 18, of Houston, and Elizabeth McCook, 19, of Missouri City were all arrested and charged with theft of a fire arm after they were caught breaking into cars at a Holiday Inn in Galveston on Friday. All four are in the Galveston County Jail.

All four suspects were charged with two counts each of theft of a firearm, which is a state jail felony, with a bond of $120,000, or $60,000 per each count.

Carriere was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, which is a third degree felony. Carriere has an added bond of $20,000, police said.

All four are being held in the Galveston County Jail. The investigation into their criminal escapades is ongoing.
