La Porte Budget Workshops Start Monday, Aug. 15
La Porte city council will be holding nightly budget workshops beginning on Monday, Aug. 15.

LA PORTE, TX — Beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, La Porte City Council will hold nightly budget workshops to discuss the items and services that are being considered for the upcoming fiscal year. All workshops will be held at La Porte City Hall, 604 W. Fairmont Pkwy., in La Porte.
The upcoming budget, which will go into effect on Oct. 1, includes a $9 million capital improvement plan and new service initiatives. One of the big ticket items included in the proposed budget is a new pavilion and restroom facility for Five Points Park.

The city plans to demolish the existing facility, a former Texas Parks and Wildlife building, and replace it with an open air pavilion and a restroom facility.
Other major expenses that will be up for debate include replacing playground equipment at Tom Brown and Lomax parks and installing a new shade structure at Glen Meadows Park. Council is also considering doubling the city's sidewalk repair budget to $300,000.

The La Porte Police Department has also put in a request for upgrades to its forensic lab and computer equipment.
