La Porte Comes Together Aug. 11

The La Porte Civic Club and the the La Porte Police Department are trying to bring citizens together.

LA PORTE, TX — In an attempt to reduce tension between the citizens and law enforcement, the La Porte Community Civic Club has partnered with the La Porte Police Department.

The two organizations are going to try to bridge any communication gaps, establish relationships and diffuse tensions. To accomplish the goal of deescalating a tense situation, the LPPD and the civic club will host a public meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Jennie Riley Center, 322 N. Fourth St., in La Porte.

The meeting is being described as just that, a meeting. The organizers are taking great pains to clarify that it is not a march, protest, vigil or memorial. That the point is to create a constructive dialogue between the citizens and the police.
