La Porte PD Enrolling For Advanced Citizens Police Academy

The Advanced Citizens Police Academy is an awareness program intended to create a stronger partnership between the police and community.

LA PORTE, TX — There’s still time for residents interested in learning more about the La Porte Police Department to sing up for the La Porte PD’s Advanced Citizens Police Academy. The Academy kicks off on July 16 and will continue through the end of the month.

The Advanced Citizens Police Academy is a community awareness program intended to create a stronger partnership between the police department and the citizens they serve. A short entrance application will need to be completed prior to the first night and is available here.

Students must be at least 18-years-old, have a clean criminal history, not currently on probation, bond, or wanted list. A modified background check will be conducted.

Participants in the Advanced classes will typically attend classes 8 – 10 consecutive nights and offer a more in-depth look at our special divisions and how we can utilize the information to assist law enforcement as well as benefit our day to day lives.

Those residents who have completed the basic Citizens Police Academy classes are invited to attend.

To be recognized as a graduate, with no more than 4 classes can be missed and no more than 3 of the advanced class. We ask that all participants either live or work in the city but exceptions have been made.

The previous graduating classes have formed the La Porte Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association. Any person graduating from the basic academy is eligible. There is no requirement to join the association.

Each class has a graduation ceremony on the last night. Certificates and awards are given to each participant. There is no charge for either class. All class materials will be issued notebooks, paper, pens, and handouts.
