La Porte Police Hosting Citizens Police Academy Class In August

La Porte's Citizens Police Academy​ is a community awareness program that helps create a stronger bond between the police and community.

LA PORTE, TX — The La Porte Police Department is gearing up to host another Citizens Police Academy Class. The next class begins on Aug. 13 and continues until Nov. 5. This will be second class to take place this year.

La Porte’s Citizens Police Academy program is a community awareness program that helps to create a stronger partnership between the police department and the citizens they serve.

Classes are held at the La Porte Police Department, 3001 North 23rd Street, every Tuesday night for 13 consecutive weeks, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Participants are exposed to a large group of well-qualified instructors. All courses are taught by City of La Porte Police Department employees, both certified police officers and civilian employees, serving in specialized positions.

To supplement the classroom instruction, hands-on training is offered to participants involving multiple areas of police operations, ranging from Special Weapons and Tactics to Community Policing.

Graduates of the program are eligible for the department's ride along program, and are eligible for other volunteer opportunities within the department.

Participation in the Citizens Police Academy program is free and all materials are provided by the Police Department.

An initial application is required to be completed and a background check will be conducted prior to the first night of class. Applicants must be at least 18-years old with a clear criminal history.
