FRIENDSWOOD, TX — A Pasadena man who went off on a racist rant inside an AT&T store on Monday was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

Police said Joey Christian, 38, came into the store with a friend to open a new account. Witnesses said when the friend was not able to provide the proper identification, Christian lost his cool and began berating the store clerk, who was of Middle Eastern descent.

After demanding to speak with a manager, Christian launched into a tirade that included hurling racial and ethnic slurs at the clerk, witnesses said.

A woman inside the store recorded the incident on her phone and called the police before Christian could leave.

Christian stood in the doorway of the store and allegedly bragged about killing Middle Easterners before walking out and coming face to face with a Friendswood police officer, KTRK reported.

Christian was taken into custody for two misdemeanor charges and paid a fine to avoid appearing in court.
