Plano ISD visual art students competed in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition for the Southwest Region at Large.

Plano ISD visual art students competed in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition for the Southwest Region at Large. Scholastic awards are earned for work that demonstrates originality, technical skill and emergence of a personal voice or vision. Awards at the regional level are:
- Gold key: the very best works submitted to local programs. Gold Key works are automatically considered for national–level recognition.
- Silver key: stand-out works submitted to local programs that demonstrate exceptional ability.
- Honorable mention: accomplished works submitted to local programs showing great skill and potential.
All works receiving gold keys continue to the national level of competition and will be judged nationally by an impressive panel of creative–industry experts to receive national medals, including gold medals, silver medals, American voices & visions medals, gold and silver medals with distinction, portfolio medals as well as special achievement awards. National medalists are eligible for scholarships of up to $10,000.
