ROUND ROCK, TX — A popular Austin climbing center is planning to build its biggest location in Round Rock, authorities said.

Crux Climbing Center, which first opened in South Austin in 2016, plans to build a new facility at 1989 Steam Way in Round Rock in 2022, officials said in a news release.

The 45,000 square-foot facility will sit on 5-acres of land and will feature 60-70 foot tall climbing walls. The location is expected to be its biggest facility yet.

Authorities said some new features at the facility will include a lead climbing roof (a 90 degree horizontal roof); three permanent crack climbing lines for fist, hand, and finger jams; two lanes of speed climbing; a fitness space with roll-up garage doors; an outdoor pickleball court; an outdoor sand volleyball court; and slackline anchors for special events.

"We love our Austin community and are so excited to continue growing in this city we call home," officials said.

Crux has two other locations in South Austin at 121 Pickle Rd. #100 and in Central Austin at 6015 Dillard Circle Unit B.
