Ex-Round Rock Principal Draws Pay After Racist Remarks: Report

ROUND ROCK, TX — A principal who removed from her post after being accused of making racist remarks last year continues to be paid by the Round Rock ISD four months after her ouster, according to a published report.

Still on administrative leave from Early College High School after being removed on Sept. 30, 2019, Veronica Coss continues to draw from her annual salary of $94,213.52, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The ousted educator's one-year contract ends on June 5, according to the report.

Among the accusations lodged against Coss were remarks to students related to Prairie A&M University, a historically black university, that she categorized as a "nasty school," as myriad media outlets reported last year. Coss' former secretary, Evelyn Nevarez, resigned in protest last year after alerting the Round Rock ISD board of trustees the former principal also made disparaging remarks aimed at black, immigrant and transgender students, as KVUE reported at the time.
