The planned 200-seat theater is designed in the black box style, a recent innovation consisting of a simple, largely unadorned performance space. Also known as an “experimental theater” design, the prototypical black box version usually features a large square room with black walls and flat floor.
The developing venue makes use of existing space at the Baca Center, and will feature state-of-the-art sound and video equipment, a moveable stage and a flexible lighting system. The space will be the staging area for plays, chamber operas, cabaret performances, recitals and other artistic expressions.
