National Weather Service Seeks Round Rock Weather Watchers

Free course on Wednesday will cover severe weather preparedness and safety toward the goal of training them to be official weather watchers.

ROUND ROCK, TX — Are you an amateur meteorologist? Have you ever wanted to be an official weather watcher for the National Weather Service? Well, now's your chance, Round Rock residents!

The National Weather Service is looking for folks interested in becoming weather spotters with an upcoming SKYWARN severe weather training course scheduled this week.

The course is designed to provide citizens, first responders, emergency management, amateur radio operators, and volunteer organizations the opportunity to learn about severe weather preparedness and safety, officials said. Additionally, participants will learn procedures for reporting severe weather to the local Austin/San Antonio National Weather Service Office.

Those completing the training will become official weather spotters for the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service free SKYWARN® severe weather training is scheduled this Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Allen R. Baca Center in Round Rock.
