Round Rock Continues Plans For New North-South Route

ROUND ROCK, TX — The city of Round Rock is planning to build a new major arterial roadway that will offer drivers another north-south route in the city.

Kenney Fort Boulevard, which the city began construction in 2013, is envisioned to have six lanes that will run parallel to A.W. Grimes Boulevard and Red Bud Lane and be built between Old Settlers Boulevard and State Highway 45 North, officials said Thursday.

The city’s long-term plan is to extend the road north to University Boulevard in the next decade; which will eventually extend to Westinghouse Road as demand rises, said Gary Hudder, director of the transportation department in Round Rock.

In July, Hudder said the city will seek bids to construct the section that will extend the existing portion of the road south of Forest Creek Drive and connect to SH 45 N.

He said the city hopes to start construction in the fall. Work is expected to last about 18 months.
