Round Rock ISD Will Keep Its Mask Policy For Rest Of School Year
The district's board of trustees voted 5-2 on Friday to keep current mask rules in place for the final six weeks of the school year.
ROUND ROCK, TX — Round Rock ISD will keep its face mask policy for the rest of the school year after officials met for an hours-long meeting Thursday night that lasted into early Friday morning.
The district's board of trustees voted 5-2 to keep current rules in place for the final six weeks of the school year. The decision will continue to have students, staff and visitors wear masks anywhere on school grounds and in school vehicles.
In March, the board made an amendment to the rule saying masks could be removed outdoors if people were socially distanced from one another.

Trustees Danielle Weston and Mary Bone were the two who voted against keeping the current rules in place, according to KXAN.
The news outlet reports Weston did not want to require masks for kids 10 years and younger and allow kids to take masks off when they were outdoors even if they weren’t socially distanced.

Several people spoke at the board meeting, including both students and parents. Some urged board members to keep the current requirements in place.
"Since students have already been masking in schools all year, I do not believe there are any ill effects for maintaining the requirement for the final six weeks of the school year," said Jenny Gueston, a Round Rock ISD parent.
"It's a horrible idea to let others not ... have masks around school property. So, that's why I think it should still be required on campus all day and every day. Please help me and others go back to school," one student said.
The decision to keep the mask policy comes a week after the city decided to repeal its mask enforcement policy on April 22. Read that story here: Round Rock Will Repeal Its Mask Ordinance In Late April
