Round Rock Steak N' Shake Restaurant Closed

Word about the eatery's closure at 281 University Boulevard spread quickly via social media as the company goes through financial ills.

ROUND ROCK, TX — The Steak 'n Shake restaurant in Round Rock has closed, residents reported on social media.

Word of the closure spread fast on social media as resident learned of the closure. One member of a Facebook neighborhood page said she had a craving for the eatery's signature crispy fries before finding the place at 281 University Boulevard closed. The chain also offers signature menu items called "steakburgers" and a variety of milkshakes.

According to the Restaurant Business website, the Steak n' Steak chain has had its share of troubles lately with falling sales, diminished traffic and shrinking profits in recent years. The chain closed at least 31 locations earlier this year in an attempt to stem losses, primarily in Ohio and Missouri.

According to the most recent quarterly report by Steak 'n Shake San Antonio, Texas-based parent company, Biglari Holdings, the company temporarily closed 44 of its 413 company-owned restaurants in the first three months of this year, KMOV reported. There was no change in the number of the 213 locations that are franchised-owned, according to the quarterly report.

The company operates 23 other Steak n' Shake restaurants across Texas.
