WilCo Regional Shelter Honors Local Pet Fosters In June

WilCo has partnered with Petco Love and BOBS from Sketchers to celebrate local foster volunteers for National Foster a Pet Month in June.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter has partnered with Petco Love and BOBS from Sketchers to celebrate local foster volunteers for National Foster a Pet Month in June.

The shelter announced Thursday is has partnered with national nonprofit and charity footwear to recognize lifesaving foster volunteers in Williamson County as well as encouraging other residents to foster pets.

“Each year, our foster families take in thousands of pets to help them get ready to move on to loving new homes, and it is thanks to their efforts that we are able to continue to give the animals in this community the level of care that we all want for our pets,” said Misty Valenta, animal services director at Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter.

Officials said fosters at the regional animal shelter routinely take on some of the most challenging cases, and this gives the staff at the shelter the chance to focus on the rest of the animals in their care.

From kittens with ringworm to senior hospice dogs, fosters help to lighten the workload for staff, and they give the foster animals great opportunities to thrive in their prospective new homes, authorities said.

Throughout June, Petco Love will share foster resources and stories to show how fostering is easy, highly rewarding and significantly helps end preventable euthanasia of pets.

“It is an honor to recognize the individuals making a difference in their communities and demonstrating the lifesaving impact of fostering pets,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “What they are doing is so powerful. If less than 2 percent of the 85-million pet-owning households in the U.S. fostered one pet a year, we could eliminate preventable euthanasia in animal shelters nationwide tomorrow.”

Through sales of its BOBS from Skechers collection, Skechers has donated more than $3.1 million to support Petco Love’s more than 4,000 animal welfare organization partners, authorities said.
