Wife Of Round Rock Express President Dies Of Cancer

ROUND ROCK, TX -- Jana Almendarez, the wife of the Round Rock Express team president Chris Almendarez succumbed to brain cancer on Saturday, officials of the baseball organization confirmed.

She was diagnosed in June of last year, officials said. By the time of her death, the cancer had spread to stage IV.

"The Almendarez family would like to thank their family, friends and the entire #TeamJana community for all of the love and support they have received," team officials wrote. "They'd also like to thank the entire staff at Texas Oncology and St. David's Round Rock for their love and dedication to Jana's health over the past year."

Round Rock Express CEO Reese Ryan conveyed his condolences to Almendarez's family.

"This is a devastating loss for our Round Rock Express family," Ryan said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chris, Chase, Luke and their entire family. The Almendarez family has been part of not only the Express family, but our personal family for a long time and we mourn this loss with them."

Funeral arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family said donations may be made to: Head for the Cure; in memory of Jana Almendarez; 2020 Baltimore Ave. Ste. 201 Kansas City, MO 64108.
