WilCo Animal Shelter To Waive Adoption Fees To Ease Over-Capacity

Shelter to waive adoption fees for all adult dogs and cats through Sunday in an effort to mitigate over-capacity after recent rains.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — With so many storms rolling through the area that last few weeks, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter now finds itself over capacity with medium and large dogs. The upshot: Since April 1, the shelter has received 411 stray animals, which is 85 more animals than the same time last year.

In order to save lives, the shelter is holding a blockbuster adoption special “Adopters Assemble,” a takeoff from a soon-to- be-released movie. The shelter will be waiving all adoption fees on all adult dogs and cats in hopes they will inspire adopters to assemble and bring home the dog or cat sidekick of their dreams. The special starts on Thursday and runs through Sunday.

“The Marvelous Mongrels, a rag tag group of super heroic dogs, are facing their most fierce opponent, Space,” Cheryl Schneider, WCRAS animal services director, said. “They are calling on Adopters, a team of extraordinary community members who possess the superpowers to save the shelter, to assemble and adopt. Only with the help of Adopters can the Marvelous Mongrels become victorious over their battle with Space.”

With even more heavy rain pounding the region on Wednesday, Schneider said the shelter is facing "...a formidable challenge" only the community can help solve. “We need adopters with super hero hearts to save our dogs,” she said.

Each adult dog and cat will go home with current vaccinations, a heartworm or FeLv test, a microchip (which the shelter will also register), a certificate for a wellness exam, and a sample of food.
