WilCo To Stage Free Pet Adoption Event
Sponsor A+ Federal Credit Union has pledged to pay for the first 50 adoptions of adult dogs, adult cats, kittens and bunnies.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is hosting a free adoption event for those seeking pets this weekend.
The event scheduled on Saturday, Oct. 26, is being sponsored by A+ Federal Credit Union. Since the shelter is currently overcapacity, A+ Federal Credit Union has pledged to pay for the first 50 adoptions of adult dogs, adult cats, kittens and bunnies on the day of the event, organizers said in a press advisory.

Currently, the shelter is 30 dogs and 30 cats overcapacity. Although the so-called kitten season — the time of year shelters take in many stray kittens and pregnant cats, is typically in the warmer climates of spring and summer, the shelter is still receiving kittens in need of care. Additionally, the shelter is housing over 30 dogs due to pending court cases. These two situations put a strain on shelter staff, volunteers, fosters, and resources, shelter officials noted.
“In cases where shelter resources are strained, we immediately reach out to our community for help," Animal Services Director Cheryl Schneider said in a prepared statement. "We are extremely grateful for the pledge made by A+ Federal Credit Union. If we find wonderful homes for 50 animals on Saturday, the shelter will be in a better position to serve the animals in our care.”

All dogs and cats adopted on Saturday will be spayed/neutered, microchipped and registered, given age appropriate vaccinations, and tested for FeLv (cats) or heartworms (dogs.) View adoptable pets at pets.wilco.org/Adopt.
