Williamson County Animal Shelter Offering Free Pet Adoptions
To celebrate canine 'homecoming' from temporary lodging, adult animals are up for grabs — including dolled-up homecoming king, queen.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TEXAS — As they welcome canine residents home from temporary lodging, Williamson County Regional Shelter officials are offering free adoptions of adult dogs and cats through Monday.
This week is “Homecoming” week at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS)! The shelter is celebrating the dogs returning “home” from the temporary Canine Corral in San Gabriel Park back to their permanent shelter location at 1855 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown, officials explained. To celebrate their return, the shelter will offer free adoptions for all adult dogs and cats (7 months and older).
Homecoming Week runs through October 28.

Shelter officials posted a poll on their Facebook page to vote for a shelter Homecoming King and Queen. Rodger, a 5-year-old hunk who loves playing in the water and giving hugs, won the first ever WCRAS Homecoming King. Bella Bree, a 6-year-old beauty is a smart and introverted girl, won the title of WCRAS Homecoming Queen. Each received an animal version of a glamour shot session, a photo shoot to commemorate the event. Shelter officials are hopeful the makeovers will facilitate efforts to find the glamorous beasts and their peers a foster or forever home, officials suggested.

Currently, the shelter is over capacity with medium and large dogs, shelter officials report. In the last few days, more dogs have entered the shelter than have been adopted or returned to their families, officials added.
“Based on our new estimate and current rate of dogs entering our shelter, we will be over capacity by 40 dogs on moving day,” Cheryl Schneider, animal services director, said. “The shelter is in desperate need of foster and forever homes.”
