Williamson County Commissioner Ron Morrison Passes Away

Morrison, 71, was first elected to post in 2006 and had a long record of civic engagement in the community where he grew up.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX -- Precinct 4 County Commissioner Ron Morrison passed away Wednesday, officials announced.

Morrison, 71, died at around 3 a.m. Wednesday. He was halfway through his third term in a post to which he was first elected in 2006. He won reelection in 2010 and 2014.

According to a bio in the county's website, Morrison was a lifetime resident of Williamson and Milam counties. He graduated from Round Rock High School and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, both from Texas State University.

Morrison served six years in the 900th Military Intelligence Unit in the U.S. ArmyReserves, and was a former school teacher at Round Rock High School as well as an instructor Texas State University.

In 2004, Morrison was named the Round Rock Chamber Citizen of the Year. Active in civic activities, he served on the YMCA Metro board of directors; as former chair of the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce; formerly served as president of the Round Rock Rotary Club; served in the Texas Independent Auto Dealers Association; the Round Rock Noon Kiwanis Club; and charter president of the Williamson County Pop Warner Football League.

At the time of his death, Morrison chaired the Williamson County Fleet Committee. He was appoitned by the Williamson County Commissioners Court to serve on the Capital Area Council of Governments Clean Air Force Committee and served three years as president; the Capital Area Rural Transportation Planning Organization Committee; Round Rock Economic Development Partnership Committee; and the Central Texas Resource Conservation & Development Council serving as president. He also serves as VP on the Clean Air Coalition.

Morrison was married to his wife, Glenda Morrison, for nearly 50 years. They were both members of the Round Rock Church of Christ. The couple ran Morrison Auto, Inc., in Round Rock for more the 25 years.

“There is a hole in Williamson County that will be very difficult to fill,” fellow County Commissioner Cynthia Long and close Morrison family friend, told the Austin American-Statesman. “Ron always had an encouraging word and genuinely loved people,” Long said.

Funeral service details have not yet been released.
