A 6-month-old baby girl is in critical condition at a Texas hospital after crossing the Rio Grande into the United States with her father as part of a group of migrants, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said in a statement.

According to the CBP statement, the group of migrants was apprehended three miles west of a port of entry into the U.S. early Thursday morning. The baby and her father were taken to a central processing center and just under eight hours after the group was apprehended, medical staff at the processing center said the child should be treated at a hospital.

She was taken to Edinburg Regional Children’s Hospital in Edinburg before being airlifted to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi. Agents drove the baby's father to the hospital so he could be with her.
