Child Found Dead, 3 Missing After Raft Carrying Migrants Capsizes
The raft capsized on the Rio Grande River along the Texas border late Wednesday night.
EAGLE PASS, TX — Border patrol officials have recovered the body of a child after a raft carrying nine migrants capsized on the Rio Grande River, officials said. Three others who were on the raft remain missing.
In a press release, Customs and Border Patrol officials said that around 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, a man was detained for illegally entering the United States. The man told border patrol agents that he was part of a group attempting to cross the river in a rubber raft that capsized.
According to border patrol officials, the man said his own wife, two sons and nephew were among those who had been swept away. The man's wife and 6-year-old son were rescued from the water by a border patrol agent. The child was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

The man's 10-month-old son was found dead, according to border patrol officials.
A short time later, authorities said another man and his young son were found on the U.S. bank of the river. The pair did not require medical assitance.
