Family Dog Mauls 4-Year-Old To Death In Own Backyard

Sheriff Javier Salazar told a local media outlet that a family member saw the dog with its "mouth around the little boy's neck."

CONVERSE, TX — Noah Trevino was playing in the backyard of his Texas home when the 4-year-old apparently got too close to a large, tied up dog. The dog, which the family told media outlets had never attacked anyone, mauled him to death.

Now, the dog will be tested for rabies and euthanized. The devastated family is also raising money to cover the boy's funeral costs.

The dog, a mixed, large breed, attacked the boy on the 8900 block of Twincreek Farm in Converse, near San Antonio, on Sunday, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office told media outlets. Sheriff Javier Salazar told KSAT-TV a family member saw the dog with its "mouth around the little boy's neck." The animal also shook him.

Relatives tried to give medical assistance to the lifeless child, but were unsuccessful. He was airlifted to a hospital and was pronounced dead.

The sheriff warned that even dogs that don't appear aggressive can still be "unpredictable."
