North East School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in North East is August 28. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The North East Independent School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

• 8/14 - 8/18: New Teacher Orientation
• 8/21 - 8/25: Teacher Staff Development/Preparation
• 8/28: First Day of School

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)

October

• 10/6: Early Dismissal for Students (Conferencing and/or Professional Development)
• 10/9: No School for Students (Teacher Staff Development/Preparation)
• 10/20: End of Grading Period
• 10/23: Start of Grading Period

November

• 11/1 - 11/2: Elementary and Middle School Early Dismissal for Students (Conferencing and/or Professional Development)
• 11/20 - 11/21: No School for Students (Teacher Staff Development/Preparation)
• 11/22 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving)

December

• 12/21 - 12/22: High School Early Dismissal (Professional Development)
• 12/22: End of Grading Period
• 12/25 - 1/5: No School (Winter Break)

January

• 1/1 - 1/5: No School (Winter Break)
• 1/8: Start of Grading Period
• 1/15: No School (MLK Day)

February

• 2/16: Early Dismissal for Students (Conferencing and/or Professional Development)
• 2/19: No School for Students (Teacher Staff Development/Preparation), Severe Weather Makeup Day
• 2/27 - 2/28: Elementary and Middle School Early Dismissal for Students (Conferencing and/or Professional Development)

March

• 3/9: End of Grading Period
