SAN ANTONIO (April 29, 2021) — Today, City Council voted to approve an Advanced Funding Agreement with TxDOT and accept the funds needed to move forward on the construction of the new Hamilton Wolfe Cycle Track in the South Texas Medical Center. “As the councilmember who represents the South Texas Medical Center, and as an avid cyclist, I am thrilled to see this project–which is an exemplary model of micromobility–move forward. When completed, the Hamilton Wolfe Cycle Track will serve as a key connector to the existing bike and trail network in the Medical Center that began with the Floyd Curl Green Street.
In addition to improving mobility in the area, encouraging more of our neighbors to take their bikes instead of their vehicles, and helping to address traffic congestion and air quality, the Hamilton Wolfe Cycle Track will also include new sidewalks, bike racks, benches, and landscaping that will beautify the area.
This project is a team effort that leverages more than $4.8 million in state and federal funds to complement the City’s investment of $1.6 million. Thank you to my Council Colleagues and the Medical Center Alliance, the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, the City of San Antonio Public Works Department, and TxDOT for making this possible. We can all look forward to a community ride on the track when the project is completed!”
When completed in 2023, the project will include a dedicated two-way bicycle track along Hamilton Wolfe (Babcock to Ewing Halsell) and Ewing Halsell (Hamilton Wolfe to Sid Katz).
