Veteran and Military Community Invited to Veterans Resource Fair

Fair hosted by local VFW posts, San Antonio Food Bank and Humana on Nov. 17

The San Antonio veterans and military community are invited to attend a free Veterans Resource Fair on Saturday, Nov. 17 hosted by VFW District 20, Humana and the San Antonio Food Bank.

Several area organizations serving the veterans community will be on hand to provide resources and information. There will also be children’s activities including face painting.

The resource fair is the culmination of a two-month long food drive hosted by the three organizations in an effort to bring awareness to the fact that 1 in 5 households served by a local food bank has at least one member who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. military (according to Feeding America).

Members of the community are invited to bring non-perishable food donations with them to help support the food drive.

As part of the event, the 20 VFW posts will convoy their food donations to the San Antonio Food Bank and then help sort the food items intended for veterans and military families.

As part of its Bold Goal work to make San Antonio 20 percent healthier by 2020, Humana is bringing the VFW and the San Antonio Food Bank together to impact food insecurity locally. Earlier this year, Humana partnered with Feeding America (the national affiliate for the San Antonio Food Bank) to stage a series of events throughout the year that will drive food donations and raise awareness of food insecurity with a focus on helping veterans. In addition, Humana is a national affiliate partner of the VFW.
