Police ID Woman Killed After Striking Tree In South Austin

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the woman who died after hitting a tree over the weekend.

Police responded to the 1000 block of South MoPac Expressway (Loop 1) on Sunday, May 12, just before 10 a.m. A preliminary investigation shows that a 1999 tan Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on MoPac before the driver inexplicably lost control of the vehicle and slid into a tree in a grassy area between MoPac and the frontage road.

The woman in the car, idenfitied as Cheyanne Sage Serrano, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident marked Austin’s 28th fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 29 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, there were 22 fatal traffic crashes and 23 traffic fatalities.
