2 From Spring ISD Tapped For 2018 Under Armour Game
Westfields Keondre Coburn and Malcom Epps from Dekaney pumped for the chance to play.

From Spring ISD: Two Spring ISD football players – Keondre Coburn, Westfield High School, and Malcolm Epps, Dekaney High School – have been selected to participate in the 2018 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game on Jan. 4 in Orlando. Representatives from Under Armour stopped by Westfield on Oct. 23 and Dekaney on Oct. 24 to present the student athletes with their game jerseys during ceremonies held in front of family, teammates and friends.
“It’s mind-blowing, I never thought I would be able to do this, get invited to this game,” said Coburn, who plays defensive tackle for the Westfield Mustangs. Epps, who is a tight end for Dekaney and also plays basketball for the Wildcats, said he was at a loss for words. “I grew up on basketball and the NBA, but then football came and gave me the opportunity, and I took it and ran with it. Some people didn’t believe I could do this, but when you have God on your side and an amazing family, you can do anything,” Epp said.

The families of both athletes were front and center at the ceremonies where their supporting roles wererecognized as being key to the athletes’ success. Coburn’s grandmother, Betty Harbour, and Epp’s mother, Mechelle Epps each were awarded the Dream Champion Award for helping their student pursue his dream of playing football on the national stage. “We didn’t do this by ourselves. It has truly taken a village to get Malcolm where he is today,” said Mechelle Epps. “We are blessed and very thankful to Spring for everything they’ve done.” ESPN2 will air the game live at 6 p.m. Eastern time on Jan. 4. The game practice and the American Family Insurance skills challenge will also be held during game week at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando.
