Chemical Leak Injures 2 At Lone Star College-University Park

HOUSTON — Two Lone Star College students were taken to an area hospital after being exposed to Bromine inside one of the classrooms. The incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. inside a storage room on the sixth floor of Building 12/13.

Officials at Lone Star College-University Park in Spring sent out an emergency message advising students and faculty to evacuate the area on Wednesday morning.

Lone Star College Police Chief Paul Willingham said seven students were exposed with two requiring medical attention.

"There was an acid spill on the 6th floor of UP Buildings 12/13. The ventilation system has been shut down and buildings 12/13 have been ordered evacuated," Lone Star College System Communications Director Jed Young said in a statement.

Young added that students in buildings 9, 10, 11, CSI or EMI did not need to evacuate.

The Houston Fire Department HAZMAT team is on the scene with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office and the Cypress Creek Fire Department.

LSC-University Park is located on State Highway 249 south and Louetta Road in Spring.
