The meeting is one of 23 public meetings, announced on May 30 by Harris County Judge Ed Emmett that are being held in each of the Harris County Watersheds.

Cypress Creek was among the hardest hit during Hurricane Harvey, and saw hundreds of homes and businesses flooded, including the Harris County Sheriff's Office and Harris County Pct. 4 Constable's Office substation, the Barbara Bush Library, and the Harris County Precinct 4, Place 1 Courthouse.

Emmett and the Harris County Flood Control District held a joint press conference on May 30 announcing the meetings and an aggressive $2.5 billion plan, if passed will include:

  • Home buyouts in flood prone areas
  • Improvement in the flood warning system
  • Channel improvements and repairs
  • Creation of green space and detention basins throughout the entire county

On June 12, the Harris County Commissioners approved a measure to place the bond proposal on the Aug. 25 ballot.

These meetings have been declared to be special meetings of Harris County Commissioners Court so that members of Commissioners Court may attend and participate.
