Free Pet Adoptions Happening For 'National Best Friends' Weekend

Free pet adoptions are happening this weekend as part of National Best Friends Day.

HOUSTON, TX — Everyone needs a best friend, and if you're the type of person who connects better with dogs than people there are hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats available who can be adopted for free this weekend.

It's all part of National Best Friends Day, which was Friday, but free adoptions are happening all weekend.

Two weeks ago, animal shelters throughout the area saw a surge in owners surrendering their pets, which led to overpopulation, particularly with dogs.
