Global Garage Flooring and Design Resurfaced Our Garage Floor

We have lived in Cypress for about a year. We have one of those Lennar NextGen homes, so my mother-in-law lives with my wife and me. For Christmas, my mother-in-law got me the gift of getting our garage floor resurfaced because our next-door neighbor had his done, and my wife, mother-in-law, and I loved it. My neighbor used Global Garage Flooring & Design, so we went with the same company.

I used the website to pick out a color. Though I was initially partial to Brown Trout, I was influenced and converted by my wife and mother-in-law who preferred Scottish Blue Trout. This is the same color that our next-door neighbor had selected.

It turned out to be an excellent choice. It really makes a statement.

Though in previous homes we owned, I had painted our garage floors myself using Sherwin-Williams two-part epoxy paint, we were impressed by the durability and lifetime warranty of what Global Garage Flooring & Design had to offer:

The first step was to empty the garage. The resurfacing process takes a full day to cure, so we needed a place for our garage content overnight. I considered renting a 16-foot PODS container ($89.99 delivery, $189.99 one-month, $89.99 pickup), but Global Garage Flooring & Design rents a storage trailer for $100. SOLD! So my son and I emptied the garage into the trailer.

After removing our water softener and storing it safely in the trailer, the crew ground down the garage concrete to create a smooth service:

The crew then vacuumed and blew out the garage to remove the cement dust. For a few minutes, it was like dry ice smoke at a concert:

The next step was to fill any cracks or holes to create a perfectly smooth surface:

With a smooth surface to work on, the crew applied polyaspartic that had been tinted gray to form the garage floor base. Polyaspartic refers to an “aliphatic polyurea” where aliphatic denotes organic compounds in which carbon atoms form open chains, and polyurea is a curing system that dries to form a very solid surface.

Resurfacing a floor is just like painting a wall, so the crew cut in first before rolling:

After applying a second coat of the base coat, it was time to add the chips. The crew started with the vertical surfaces because the polyaspartic (applied with a paint brush) dries quickly, and they needed to add the chips before the material dried:

The crew used a leaf blower and a vacuum to remove up the excess chips.

After the vertical surfaces were done, the rest of the floor was chipped by applying polyaspartic with a roller and sprinkling the chips on top before it dried:

The crew removed any chips that were sticking up using a metal tool and then finished the flooring off with another protective topcoat of polyaspartic:

I was floored by their excellent work!

My son and I unloaded the trailer back into the garage. Global Flooring & Design did such a good job that we almost hated to put our stuff back into the garage. We just wanted to sit down and stare at the garage floor.

We kept the carpet piece because it's like one big welcome mat — removing dirt from our shoes before we track it into the house. The new surface is easy to maintain. Using a push broom, the dirt and dust practically fly out of the garage.

The cost of the project was $3.75 per square foot. With our garage being 617 square feet, that's $2,313.75. With the trailer rental and taxes, the grand total was $2,612.88. Thanks to my mother-in-law, Jeanene Price, for such an extravagant gift.
