High School Football Playoffs: Houston Teams Still In The Hunt

Can Marshall take the 5A crown? Will Cy-Fair repeat as champs, or will North Shore leave them in the dust? Follow all the teams to state.

It's coming down to the wire in the hunt for a state championship, and a number of Houston area teams will learn this weekend if they will be moving in the race to clinch a state championship title. On Thursday night, Fort Bend Marshall became the first Houston area team to learn their fate, defeating the Huntsville Hornets 47-43.

The Marshall Buffaloes has been one of the tougher teams in the Greater Houston area this season. They will advance to the Division II 5A Semi-finals and play the winner of the Calhoun-Calallen game this weekend.

There are several games slated in for Saturday that will determine who will advance to the 6A Semifinals.

The biggest game of the Houston high school football season pits the 2017 state champion Cy-Fair Bobcats taking on the undefeated Northshore Mustangs for a chance to play in the semifinal game against the winner of the Lake Travis-Converse Judson game taking place Saturday in San Antonio.

In Saturday other action Cypress Creek kicks off at 2 p.m. against Beaumont West Brook. The winner advances to the semifinal game against the winner of the Westlake-Brandeis who play at the Alamodome on Saturday night.

Spring Westfield will take on Longview in a 2:30 p.m. match up in Waco. The winner plays either Haltom or Tascosa in the 6A Division II semifinal game.
