SPRING, TX — A school bus driver who was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Thursday after she was seen weaving in traffic with a busload of kids said it was a bad doughnut and not drugs or alcohol that made her driving erratic.

Linda Sue Godejohn, 55, said she was suffering from an upset stomach when she was pulled over by deputy constables on Thursday afternoon.

"I don't drink. I have not had a drink in years," Godejohn told KTRK after her release from jail on Friday.

Dispatchers received several 911 calls from motorists who said the bus weaving before it ran off the roadway and hit a dividing wall and pulled back into traffic, and deputies reported seeing the bus make a sharp turn that nearly rolled the bus.

Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman said Godejohn was removed from the bus by deputy constables as she was dropping students off on Aldine Westfield Road and Hirschfield Road.

She was given a field sobriety test, which Herman said she "failed miserably," and obtained a warrant for a blood draw, which was sent to the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

Officials said Godejohn was operating a school bus with 13- and 14-year-old students from YES Prep Schools, which released the following statement:

“YES Prep Public Schools has learned that a contracted bus driver was pulled over for driving erratically and then taken into custody for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. If these allegations prove true, we are furious that this driver put our students in harm's way…”

School officials said Godejohn is employed by First Student Bus Company, and not YES Prep Schools. None of the students were injured, and another bus driver was sent to the scene to take the students home, officials said.
