Spring ISD : Spring ISD To Host STAAR Parent Workshop On June 28

Spring ISD will host a virtual session on Monday, June 28 at 12 p.m. and a face-to-face session at Westfield High School on Monday, June 28 at 6 p.m. for parents and guardians to learn how to access and understand their student’s STAAR score report.

The STAAR is one of many ways to measure student learning. The test helps schools and teachers better understand where students may have gaps from the disruptions to learning caused by the pandemic. Teachers also use the STAAR along with other information to co-create learning plans with families to jumpstart learning next year.

After receiving their child’s STAAR report card, parents and guardians will be able to access more detailed information on TexasAssessment.gov by following these steps:

• Find the unique access code on the first page of your child’s STAAR report card and enter it on the Texas Assessment homepage
• This will take you directly to your child’s STAAR results, which will include detailed breakdowns in each subject, identifying your child’s strengths as well as areas where they may need additional support.

Parents have shared that seeing which questions their child got incorrect has been the most useful. The homepage will also allow parents to see easy-to-use resources that can be used at home over the remainder of the summer focused on the skills students need the most support with.

We expect STAAR scores will likely be lower for many students this year, who have experienced trauma and loss in addition to the disruption in classroom instruction. Parents can help ease stress by letting their child know that this year, STAAR is only meant to help teachers and parents better support their learning.

Spring ISD wants to encourage parents to log in and learn more after you receive your child’s STAAR report card. Use this information along with your own observations from the past year and your child’s grades to create a learning plan with teachers in the fall to help your child succeed.
