TxDOT To Add Lanes To Texas 249

TxDOT is planning to restripe nearly four miles of Tomball Tollway this month, adding two lanes to the roadway.

TOMBALL, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation is planning to add two traffic lanes to Texas 249 with a restriping project that is set to begin later this month.

The restriping would begin at Chasewood Park Drive in Spring, and end 3.6 miles north on Gregson Road in Tomball.

Restriping Texas 249 would add an additional lane in each direction to the inside of the existing highway, increasing the toll way from six to eight lanes.

The Tomball toll way, which was formerly a two-lane state highway with a huge grassy median between Spring-Cypress Road to Spring Creek north of Tomball, became a toll road when the Harris County Toll Road Authority transformed the road into a six-lane tollway in 2015 when the first phase of the project opened to traffic.

The next phase of the toll way, which is currently under construction between FM 2920 and Spring Creek in Harris County, and from Spring Creek to Pinehurst in Montgomery County is set to open to traffic in 2019.

The restriping project is expected to take place through the summer and cost about $450,000.
