5 Sugar Land Bars for Catching Up With Friends Over Thanksgiving

SUGAR LAND, TX - The holidays are some of the sweetest times of the year in Sugar Land, and Patch knows where its readers can find equal parts libations and leisure when catching up with friends and family over Thanksgiving.
- Gastropub Flying Saucer celebrated its Sugar Land location's five-year anniversary on Nov. 19, releasing a number of new brews that include the Saint Arnold Art Car, Avery 23 and the Sugar Land 5th Anniversary Flight. The establishment offers a comprehensive list of American and global beers and will be celebrating the week of Thanksgiving with a trivia bowl on Nov. 22, its Brew Nite: Turkey of the Year Glass event on Nov. 23, tap night on Thanksgiving day and an Avery Rumpkin special on Nov. 25.

- Reviews for the Gridiron Sports Bar praise the bar for its friendly, helpful staff, that "you go in as a customer and leave as a friend." An affordable selection of starters, platters, baskets and favorites allows visitors to make themselves at home, but Gridiron offers more than traditional appeal; free comedy shows are held Thursdays, karaoke on Fridays, live music on Saturdays and an all-day Happy Hour on Sundays, tying off the week. A party will be held Nov. 23 on the eve of Thanksgiving.

- Pennison's Sports Pub released a special calendar of deals and events happening throughout the month of November and will open its doors to the public on Thanksgiving day from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. A pot luck poker tournament will be held the day before on Nov. 23, with turkey provided $3 pecan pie shots and a Kruto Vodka Happy Hour at $2.75 per glass.

- Turquoise Grill & Bar is open for Thanksgiving, offering a $19.95 menu that includes—but is not limited to—Greek salad, freshly baked shepherd bread, turkey or roast beef, mashed potatoes with Jasmine rice and homemade baklava as well as $4 mimosas and $6 sangria.

- The Big Ben Tavern prides itself as a neighborhood gathering place, serving food, drinks and hospitality to of-age residents in the Sugar Land area. Weekly food specials are abound, and locals and tourists alike are invited to attend Big Ben's Bomb Fridays, which feature a live DJ, $4 "bomb" cocktails and $3 select bottles and drafts.
