Brazos River Reaches Flood Stage In Richmond

Officials said the Brazos River has reached flood stage at 46.84 feet and is predicted to crest on Friday at 47.2 feet.

RICHMOND, TX -- Fort Bend County Emergency Management officials announced Wednesday that the Brazos River has reached flood stage at 46.84 feet.

According to earlier reports on Wednesday, the Brazos River, which was at 42.06 feet before the storm on Tuesday, would rise to at least 46.1 feet by Friday.

The new prediction for the crest is at 47.2 feet on Friday, May 10, at 1 p.m. Overly saturated grounds from Tuesday's rainfall means any additional rainfall could be quick to flood once again late Wednesday or early Thursday.

City of Richmond

The forecasts calls for more rain through Friday and into Saturday. County officials are warning residents that future rains will cause localized flooding.

City leaders in Richmond are not mandating evacuations at this time however would request all citizens in the flood prone areas to take precautions, and prepare to self-evacuate if needed, secure all outside items such as lawn furniture, children’s toys, bicycles, etc. if at all possible, and to move all important documents and personal items to higher places inside as well.
