This program highlights three (3) points that help responders with traffic flow while en route as well as helping to identify the location of the emergency.
Be Alert to Emergency Vehicles- Listen and Watch for Emergency Vehicles. Texas law requires that upon the immediate approach of an emergency vehicle all traffic meeting or being overtaken must YIELD the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to, and as close as possible to the right hand edge or curb of the roadway clear of any intersection and stop.
Yield to Emergency Vehicles- Move over- Vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle. Slow to a speed 5- 20 miles below posted speed limit and drive as safe as possible by giving emergency vehicles enough space to get where they need to go. You will ensure your safety and will help Firefighters, EMT’s, and Police Officers do their jobs as they may be coming to help someone you know.
Properly Display Address so it is visible from the street....Seconds count in an emergency. Make it EASY to find your address for 911 services- fire, law enforcement and EMS personnel. A visitor, child or an injured person may be unable to give clear directions during an emergency situation.
