Houston, Texas – Wealth Design Group, one of Houston’s largest financial services firms, hosted Start Something Meaningful on Thursday, October 6th. The networking event celebrated the success of women and business leaders in the community and encouraged local women to pursue their passion through a satisfying career path. Wealth Design Group created the event to provide local women with the opportunity to build connections and find new business opportunities. This year, they partnered with Dress for Success Houston, an organization that has been providing interview suits and career development to more than 4,000 Houston women annually for the past 18 years, and Hollinden, a leading professional services marketing firm.
“The time you spend at work should be more than just a job. It should be meaningful, impactful, and align with your core values,” said Alice Chen, vice president of multicultural markets, manager and defined benefit specialist of Wealth Design Group. “We created this event to share insights, strategies, and resources for local women to capitalize on their strengths, and to create meaningful change and growth in their careers.

Guest speakers shared their personal experiences on how they identified and made the most out of career opportunities that they were most passionate about in the Houston job market including: Nancy Levicki, president and co-founder of Dress for Success Houston, who shared her reason for starting the company and the impact it has had on the community; Christine Hollinden, founding principal of Hollinden, who shared her reason for breaking out of corporate America and the flexibility and control starting her own business has given her; and Richard (Rick) Ray, CEO and president of Wealth Design Group, who gave his perspective on how to pivot from a career in another field into a rewarding career in financial services and the positive effect this industry can have on clients and the community.
“While the Houston job market has recently seen only modest employment growth, the financial services sector here is strengthening and women have excellent career opportunities at their fingertips,” said Chen. “The field of financial services itself offers abundant career opportunities for women, whether entering the workforce for the first time, re-entering after children, or looking at a career change. We’re passionate about sharing with women that a career in financial services and sales is not only achievable, it can allow women the flexibility to raise children, have a lucrative career, and continue to be involved in their community.”
