Fort Bend Symphony Holding Choir Auditions Aug. 13-14

The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra is creating a choir for its 25th season, auditions are Aug. 13 and Aug. 14.

SUGAR LAND, TX — To help kick off its 25th season, the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra is creating a choir.

The new group of singers will be the first symphonic orchestra in Fort Bend Count. The symphony will hold open auditions for singers of all ages on Saturday, Aug. 13, and Sunday, Aug. 14, at Grace Presbyterian Church's music department 10221 Ella Lee Ln., in Houston.

Singers can audition as a solo performer or as a small group. The symphony will provide an accompanist. Solo performers are asked to be prepared to perform one classical solo or two musical theater tunes.

Additionally, solo performers will face sight reading and tonal memory exercises.

Groups will be asked to perform vocalizations, tonal memory exercises and to sight-sing a Haydn choral selection. While sight singing groups may use solfege numbers or a neutral syllable.

The audition schedule for both Saturday and Sunday features group singing auditions from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., solo singers from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and instrumentalists from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
