Man Arrested in Richmond Hours After Being Released From Jail

A man was arrested in Richmond hours after he was released from jail.

RICHMOND, TX — Deion Johnson had a brief taste of freedom. Johnson, 21, was arrested for allegedly stealing a car, the arrest came just hours after Johnson had been released from jail.

Around 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, the Richmond Police Department got a call about a Hyundai being stolen from the parking lot of a YMCA.

A man was pumping iron, when he finished he noticed that his money and car keys were missing from his gym bag.

The officers pulled the security cam footage, identified a suspect and put out a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) on the car.

Around 3:30 p.m., the cops got a call that a car matching the description of the missing Hyundai had been seen near the intersection of Williams Way and Legion Drive.

Five-oh started cruising the parking lots of county buildings and they allegedly spotted the Hyundai in front of the sheriff's office. A Richmond PD officer went into the Sheriff's Office and allegedly spotted a black man on the pay phone.

The man, Johnson, matched the description from the Y's security cameras. The officer noticed that Johnson was allegedly holding car keys to a Hyundai.

The officer talked to Johnson, who said that he had gotten out of jail at noon. After the officer allegedly verified that the keys in Johnson's hands matched the stolen car he placed Johnson under arrest and escorted him back to jail.

Johnson is facing a charge for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
