Mo' City Council Member Wants City Hall Upgrades
A member of Missouri City's city council wants to upgrade city hall.

MISSOURI CITY, TX — Call it keeping up with the Joneses, on an institutional level.
Missouri City Councilman Don Smith is feeling a bit envious about the new Houston Community College campus and the renovations being done to the library and wants something done to City Hall.
Smith wants more than just some fresh flowers planted and a new coat paint on the door. He said that the buildings facade, roof and air conditioning need to be repaired.

About $2.7 million from a $40 million infrastructure bond was set aside for repairs to City Hall, but that money is only supposed to cover roof replacement, drainage, grading and paver improvements. Another $5.7 million was designated for other public facilities.

And while those funds are available to the city, they haven't been allocated in the budget for this fiscal year. Instead, city council voted to create a 20-year master plan for repairing the facilities.
Since Smith sits on the budget committee, one would think he was aware of what was in the document he helped create.
Then again, Smith also thinks that the residents of Missouri City won't mind if city council redirects funds from the two-year project to fix the community center so some shellac can be thrown on city hall.
