HOUSTON -- Police and search crews have shifted their focus to southwest Houston, near Kirkwood Drive and Bissonnet Street, after searching areas near Greens Road and Interstate 69 in northeast Houston early Tuesday, police said.

Crews from Texas EquuSearch were called in by the Houston Police Department on Monday to provide help in finding Maleah Davis.

Police and search crews initially searched the area of Greens Road, where Maleah's stepfather Darion Vence said they were kidnapped and he was assaulted by three Hispanic men after Vence said he'd experienced car trouble.

According to earlier reports, Vence was considered a person of interest in the disappearance of his stepdaughter, but Houston Police have denied Vence was a suspect, or that he'd been charged.

Vence told investigators that he woke up on the side of State Highway 6 and I-69 near First Colony Mall at about 6 p.m. Saturday evening with his son, but that Maleah was gone, and so was the silver Nissan Altima he'd been driving.

Anyone with information on Maleah's location, or who may have information important to this case is asked to contact HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
