Richmond Begins Round 2 Of Mosquito Abatement

The spraying comes weeks after officials in Harris and Montgomery counties confirmed mosquitoes had tested positive for West Nile Virus.

RICHMOND, TX -- The City of Richmond will begin its second round of mosquito abatement with spraying areas within the city limits on Saturday.

The made its first mosquito sweep through the city on July 10.

Officials ask that you check your property for any standing water in places such as trays, fountains, tires, potted plants and dump the water.

The spraying, which is typical during the summer months, comes weeks after officials in Harris and Montgomery counties each confirmed dozens of mosquitoes had been captured and tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Officials urge residents to take precautions while outdoors and think WET:

  • Wear Repellent
  • Eliminate Standing Water
  • Treat Water You Can't Eliminate

Personal protective measures, such as wearing long, loose, light-colored clothing and applying insect repellent before going outdoors greatly reduces the risk of mosquito bites, officials said.
