Stafford MSD To Provide Free Breakfast, Lunch For 2019-2020

Primary school which serve children under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, will provide both for free.

STAFFORD, TX — The Stafford Municipal School District will be providing a free breakfast and lunch to all students in elementary through junior high for the 2019-2020 school year. District officials announced the policy change in a press release on Monday.

According to the district, campuses which serve children under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program won't require an eligibility application as in the past.

Schools qualifying to operate the Community Eligibility Provision will provide breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced- price, and paid student meals, according to the new release.

Last school year, families with kids in elementary school who did not qualify for the free or reduced breakfast and lunch program paid $633 for the entire year, while parents with intermediate and middle school students who didn't qualify, paid $676 for both meals the entire school year.

This new approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals. The change, however, will not impact students in high school.
