SwimLabs Brings Tech-Focus Swimming Education To Sugar Land
"We are really passionate about swimming," said Angela Balouchestani, who co-owns SwimLabs with her husband Mehdi.
SUGAR LAND, TX — Summer time in Houston is the peak season for visits to the neighborhood pool, but it’s always a good idea if the kids all know how to swim. SwimLabs in Sugar Land, which opened June 22, not only teaches children how to swim, but uses a system that helps children and adults become better swimmers.
"We are really passionate about swimming," said Angela Balouchestani, who co-owns SwimLabs with her husband Mehdi. "My husband is a triathlete, and the technology part was also very appealing because we are both educators.
Angela taught elementary education in Houston area schools and technology education at a private school in Sugar Land. Mehdi is a professor of computer science at American InterContinental University in Houston.

But they are also passionate because of an incident five years ago, when the couple’s then-1-year-old son fell into a crowded pool during a pool party and nearly drowned.
"It was very scary, and we realized how important it was for kids to learn how to swim," Angela said.

The couple began exploring options of a business model to help kids learn how to swim, as well as become better swimmers over time.
SwimLabs’ tech-focused training facilities are indoors and offer small, warm-water pools specially designed with 360-degree video feedback technology that lets swimmers of all ages and abilities instantly view their own strokes, correct or enhance their form, adjust their technique and master their skills.
SwimLabs unique training facilities are designed to use technology and individualized instruction to teach swimmers of all ages – beginners to competitive athletes – the absolute best techniques for water safety and swimming success.
SwimLabs, which is located at 2745 Town Center Blvd. N, Suite E, in Sugar Land, has 12 coaches on staff who are able to teach ever level of swimmer.
Angela said the parents who bring their children to SwimLabs have a variety of reasons for using their facility, but mostly it has to do with safety.
"Because of the recent drownings people are more aware, so they want their kids to be safe in the water," she said.
Competitive swimmers are also using SwimLabs to perfect their stroke and make them better in the water.
