TMEIC Electronics Breaks Ground On New Facility In Katy

The company will be opening a new 45K square foot facility in the Katy area that will create at least 100 jobs.

KATY, TX -- TMEIC Power Electronics Products Corporation broke ground on a new 45,000 square-foot facility in the Katy area.

The facility, which is located just off Grand Parkway and north of Interstate 10 in the Energy Park West Business Park, will initially be devoted to the assembly, testing and packaging of utility-scale photovoltaic inverters for the solar power market.

TMEIC is expected to increase employment to 100 full-time jobs as a result of the project. In total, capital expenditures for the project are approximately $6 million.

The facility is being constructed by Lone Star Construction and is anticipated to open later this year.

TMEIC drives industry around the world through a comprehensive offering of unique systems solutions including variable frequency drives, motors, photovoltaic inverters and advanced automation systems for a wide range of industrial applications.

Established in 2003, Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation (TMEIC) resulted from the integration of Toshiba and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation’s industrial systems divisions.

TMEIC headquarters are based in Tokyo, Japan.

Groundbreaking of the TMEIC facility represents continued growth of energy support services in the Katy area which is a target industry of the Katy Area EDC.

Similar companies have recently located to the Katy area including Pepperl+Fuchs and Vahle.

Additionally, the project adds to the growing number of foreign-based companies electing to build facilities in the Katy area. “TMEIC is excited to expand our manufacturing presence in the U.S. with the construction of our new facility and we look forward to growing our business in Katy,” said TMEIC President Jim Trexel.

Several local dignitaries were on hand at the groundbreaking event to speak and welcome TMEIC to Katy including Lance LaCour (Katy Area EDC President/CEO), Steve Pierson (City of Katy), Chris Smith (Katy ISD CFO), Judit Harescek (Harris County), Horacio Licon (GHP Vice President, International Trade and Investment) and Betty Russo (Community Relations, Gulf Coast/East Texas Region, Office of the Governor, Economic Development and Tourism).

“We are thrilled to welcome another quality company to our area,” said Katy Area EDC President/CEO Lance LaCour. “With projects such as this, we continue to establish the Katy area as a top destination for world class manufacturers.” “TMEIC is a great addition to the Katy area and we are honored to be part of the project,” said Russell Plank of Lonestar Construction.

Katy Area EDC has offered technical and incentives assistance for the project, and will be assisting in the provision of these programs.
