Where's Maleah? Houston Police Continue Search For Missing Girl

Maleah Davis, 4, has not been seen since Friday night when her stepfather pulled off Interstate 69 and Greens Road for a possible flat tire.

SUGAR LAND, TX — An Amber Alert remains in effect for a 4-year-old Sugar Land girl who vanished, and may have been kidnapped by three Hispanic men driving a blue pickup truck.

Houston Police homicide investigators held a press conference Sunday afternoon to ask for the public’s help finding the missing girl.

Maleah Davis has not been since about 9 p.m. Friday when her stepfather, Darion Vence, 26, pulled off Interstate 69 and Greens Road to investigate a popping noise.

Vence, who was on his way to Bush Intercontinental Airport in northeast Houston to pick up the children’s mother, told investigators he was checking to see if he had a flat tire when three Hispanic men in a blue pickup pulled up behind him on the side of Greens Road.

Houston Police homicide investigator Sgt. Mark Holbrook said Vence told police one of the men remarked that Maleah looked “very nice, very sweet.” Vence said that's when one of the men hit him in the head, and knocked him unconscious.

Vence woke up a short time later in the back of the truck with Maleah and his 2-year-old son, Cortland, Holbrook said.

“There were three other Hispanic males in the truck and they are driving him around,” Holbrook said. “He’s in and out of consciousness and doesn’t really know where he is.”

While Vence was in and out of consciousness, the Houston area was being hit with a deluge of rain. The child’s mother was waiting at the airport, and when Vence didn’t show, she called her mother to come and pick her up, according to a Houston Chronicle report.

Police said Sunday that a missing person's report was not filed, but the woman told KTRK-13 that she reported her family missing the next morning when she hadn't heard from Vence.

Vence told police he woke up at about 6 p.m. Saturday on the side of State Highway 6 and I-69, near First Colony Mall in Sugar Land.

“He had his son with him, and he tried to summon help, but no one was helping him,” Holbrook said.

Vence walked to Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land at about 11 p.m. with his son and was treated for injuries, Holbrook said.

Meanwhile, police are trying to determine if anyone saw the blue pickup or the silver Nissan Altima, which has been reported stolen.

On Sunday, police released a likeness of the blue pickup as well as still photos of the silver Nissan Altima belonging to Maleah’s mother seen on traffic cameras driving through a Sugar Land intersection at about 3 p.m. Saturday.

Maleah is an African-American child with black hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a pink bow in her hair and had on a light blue zip jacket, blue jeans and gray, white and pink sneakers.

Police do not have a license plate number for the pickup. The Nissan was recently purchased and had a paper dealer tag with number 330-92G9.

Anyone with information on Maleah’s location, or who may have information important to this case is asked to contact HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
