'Brain-Eating Amoeba' Kills Tourist At Texas Resort
Waco's BSR Cable Park's Surf Resort​ is under investigation following the death of a tourist due to a rare infection.

WACO, TX — A resort is under investigation after a 29-year-old surfer died after coming in contact with a rare "brain-eating amoeba." Fabrizio Stabile, 29, of New Jersey, died a day after he contracted Naegleria fowleri from a wave pool at BSR Cable Park's Surf Resort, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported. Naegleria fowleri is an infection diagnosed 143 times in the U.S. in the last 55 years, according to the Center for Disease Control.
Stabile had been in the pool before suffering a headache while mowing his lawn Sept. 16. On Sept. 21, he was pronounced dead at Atlantic City Medical Center, according to his GoFundMe page.
The surf resort is closed pending an investigation.

"The CDC collected water samples and are currently investigating to find the source. We hope to have results by the end of the week," Kelly Craine, a spokesperson for Waco-McLennan County Public Health District, said according to CBS News.
